Chairman and CEO
BACKGROUND:
Mr. Bustos has over 25 years of experience in the automotive, transportation, industrial and telecommunications industries, and has held multiple senior executive positions. Mr. Bustos has extensive experience managing global operations, executing complex restructurings and forging new business development in Europe, Asia and the Americas, with specific emphasis in emerging markets, and China. He led the Electronics and Controls, OE Powertrain, Hybrid Systems, and Driveline Sectors at General Motors Global Powertrain Group, and was the Executive Director of Global Purchasing. Prior to this he was the CEO of Mobile Communications Systems. During his tenure at General Motors, his responsibilities included leading corporate-wide initiatives in the areas of globalization, powertrain, operations, and global purchasing and supply chain across regions. Prior to founding OHorizons, Mr. Bustos was President of International SEE, an electronics and powertrain Tier 1 supplier.
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:
Mr. Bustos has extensive experience managing global operations, executing complex restructurings and forging new business development in Europe, Asia and the Americas, with specific emphasis in emerging markets and China. He has expertise in the areas of OEM globalization; emerging markets; HR & Board development; strategy; M&A; Board and Shareholder-level strategic options for growth, consolidation, improvement, or repositioning of products, customers, and geographies. . In addition, Mr. Bustos founded and led General Motors’ $50 billion Advanced Purchasing organization, which included systems engineering, industrial engineering, advanced quality and procurement.
Mr. Bustos has in-depth knowledge of and contact with global automotive and industrial OEM’s and Tier 1 suppliers, and an understanding of their strategies, plans, operations, strengths, weaknesses, competitive position and technology development.
He has substantial expertise setting and implementing strategy of products, customers and geographies, especially within Asia, where Mr. Bustos has successfully developed partnerships and operations working with private, public and state-owned enterprises, and with central and regional governments.
DIRECTORSHIPS:
Mr. Bustos is currently on the Board of Directors for Axalta Coating Systems, and serves on its compensation committee, the Board of Directors of the Michigan Science Center, and serves in its executive committee, and is the Founder and Chairman of the OHorizons Foundation. Previously, he has been on the Board of Directors of Cooper-Standard, and served on its compensation committee, GMI Diesel Engineering in Japan, Isuzu Motors Polska in Poland, and DMAX in the U.S.
EDUCATION:
Mr. Bustos earned his MBA as a Sloan Fellow from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
While at MIT, he authored a thesis, “We All Matter: Changing the Way We Fight Hunger,” an effort he continues as the Chairman of the OHorizons Foundation.
